Homeschooling At The Wizarding World Of Harry Potter

Are you homeschooling a fan of the Harry Potter books? If so, you can bring the stories to life and reinforce the learning at the same time. Homeschooling at The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is a magical way to learn. It makes for one of the best homeschool field trips of all time!

Homeschooling With Harry Potter

For years, we have used the Harry Potter series as a framework for our homeschool. Every year, we work through one book and complete all sorts of learning activities and games associated with the story.

Just as Harry completes one school year in each book, so do we.

Waldock’s Wizards and Wands is an in depth unit study designed to take your child through each book, in a way that is hands-on, imaginative, and fun. We have used this unit study for three years now and are looking forward to our fourth.

Wizarding World Hogwarts Express

This year, in addition to taking on the fourth book, we decided to kick off our new school year by climbing aboard the Hogwarts Express and heading straight to Hogwarts at The Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Orlando, FL.

Why Visit The Wizarding World Of Harry Potter In Your Homeschool

There is, of course, the sheer joy of riding rides and the general amusement park fun. But The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is so much more.

It is a magical, immersive experience in the world of Harry Potter. The books literally come to life right before your childโ€™s eyes.

A visit to Ollivander’s allows a wand to โ€œchoose the wizardโ€ and you are on your way to casting spells and creating a magical memorable time.

You can see an inside look at our experience in this video. We also share all our favorite parts of the park itself.

Tips For Homeschooling At The Wizarding World Of Harry Potter

In any field trip of this magnitude, there are some logistics to consider. Here are my most important recommendations.

Stay Onsite If Possible

One of the best decisions we made was staying onsite at one of the resort hotels. This gave us access to transportation to and from the hotel (no parking each day!) and early admission to the park with less crowds and more opportunities to interact.

Visit During Off Peak Times

This made our trip all the more fun. We visited the park during the slower times of day and then headed back to the hotels to swim and relax during the busier times. This gave all of us a chance to rest, recharge, and then get back to the wizarding world.

Harry Potter Homeschool Resources We Love

We picked up a few treats along the way, and some of them will continue to support our learning throughout the year.

We came home with a quill for writing practice, a Gryffindor journal, and wax seals for pen pal letters.

In addition, there are so many more Harry Potter Resources we love and that make the learning all that much more engaging.

Waldock Wizards And Wands: A Harry Potter Unit Study Perfect For Your Homeschool

The last resource that has been in valuable in our study is of course, the unit study itself.

Waldockโ€™s Wizards and Wands is a year long study in which students read the Harry Potter books, watch the movies, and study courses such as Alchemy, Astronomy, Charms, Enchantments, Herbology, Incantations, Magical Creatures, Muggle Studies, Potions, and Spells.

Harry Potter Homeschool Curriculum

It has been one of the most important parts of our homeschool each year and has created so many opportunities for learning and fun. But we aren’t the only ones loving it!

My friend Erin shares how her family’s love of Harry Potter has enhanced their homeschooling as well in  this post.
