March Morning Basket - Kindergarten

Morning Basket is still bringing joy and togetherness to our weekday mornings. I get excited to plan it each month and Emily gets excited to see what is in it each month.

This month I wanted to celebrate and showcase Easter in our Morning Basket so that will be our theme for the month of March. I am still planning on including Journal, Bible, Poetry, Folktale, Non-Fiction, Art, Math, and Read Aloud (for her and me) in every months basket. Here is what is in our March Basket:

Q & A a day for Kids: A Three Year Journal – This was a Christmas present Santa brought to Emily and I am so excite to start using it. It has a simple question for everyday of the year, and on each page is space for three years worth of answers. So you will circle around to the questions again each year. I love the thought of having this for years to come and seeing how her answers change each year. For now I will be the one doing the writing because this is about her thoughts and feelings and not handwriting practice.

Jesus Storybook Bible – This Bible is absolutely beautiful. The story is written eloquently and makes it easy for children to follow and the illustrations are to die for. It makes me happy just to look at it and I am hoping reading from it every day will make us happy too. I am planning on reading through the entire thing so you will probably see this in future Morning Baskets.

Poetry for Young People: Emily Dickinson – I love the Poetry for Young People series, they have many wonderful poets. I would like to try to get through some of the most popular ones by including them in our Morning Basket in months to come. Emily will love that I chose one with the same name as her for this month, she always gets a kick out of that.

The Classic Treasury of Aesop’s Fables – This will be our folktales for the month of March. I love the fables included in this book and the illustrations are absolutely breath taking. While it is not Easter related, “The Tortoise and The Hare” made me think of Easter so it fit in my theme, in my head at least.

What Your Kindergartner Needs to Know – This book will encompass our non-fiction, art and math for the month. This book includes read aloud selections for every subject and it is one of my favorite resources thus far for kindergarten. We will read from a different subject each day of the week.

Rabbit Hill (my read aloud) – I have never read this book, but I have heard wonderful things about it and we love Robert Lawson as an author. I thought it sounded like the perfect Easter read aloud.

The Tale of Peter Rabbit (her read aloud) – I ADORE peter Rabbit! Emily adores little things, especially books. If it is tiny she thinks it is so cute. This book fits both of those bills. It happens to be a small book but with the story we all know and love as well as the beautiful illustrations I grew up with.

All of the above things will be done everyday and even if that is all we get done I will be happy and feel as though we have a had a great homeschool day. But in the spirit of having a more fun homeschool day I have also added a few fun educational goodies to our Morning Basket too.

Peter Rabbit Mad Libs Junior – It is not surprise we love Mad Libs around here. We have never tried the junior mad libs thought so when I saw this at Target I grabbed it in a hurry. I love that it uses symbols and gives word choices to help aid younger kids in their selections and the book is larger so it is easier to write in.

Peter Rabbit Favorite Places Sticker Activity Book – I purchased the Complete Tales of Peter Rabbit on audio that we will try to listen to at the end of Morning Basket. I thought this sticker activity book would be the perfect companion for the audio to keep her engaged and give us a chance to discuss the details of the story.

I also grabbed two Easter tangram puzzles from Michael’s that I could not pass up because they were too cute for her to work on while I am reading aloud.
