Bird & Bug Themed Morning Basket

As the summer approaches each year we shift into more relaxed homeschooling, because of this the majority of our “planned” learning happens during our morning basket.

Because of that I have restructured how we will do our morning basket for the next few months.

We will focus daily on bible, logic, journal, read aloud, and movement and then Emily will get to choose at least “one more thing” from our basket of fun. So everyday we will get bible, logic, journal, read aloud, movement, and one more thing done.

Bird and Bug Morning Basket Choices:

For bible, we will be using I AM! 40 Reasons to Trust God. This beautiful book covers 40 of the Bibleโ€™s many names and descriptive titles for God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. Through Bible stories, short devotions, and prayers, children discover the meaning of each name and how it relates to their lives. As they develop understanding of Godโ€™s character and His love for them, children will grow to know, love, and trust the great I Am more and more.

For logic, we will be using the gorgeous memory/match games Match a Pair of Birds and Match Butterfly Wings.

For journal, we will still be using our Q&A a day for kids. This journal is the perfect family keepsake: A place for parents and children to share the evolution of thoughts, feelings, and dreams over the years, or a journal for kids who want to keep a time capsule of their own ideas about the worldโ€”whimsical or serious.

For read aloud, we will be reading through The Trumpet of the Swan. We read this book every year and it remains one of our favorites.

For movement, we will be using a Cosmic Kids Yoga Playlist I made of some of their bird and bug yoga.

The main learning component to our basket is the bird and butterfly curriculum from Tanglewood Hollow.

For the extras I have books, hands on activities, and games. The books I have are: Birds of a Feather Poems, Bug Off Poems, Bird House, Bug Hotel, Everything Bird, Everything Bug, Beautiful Birds, Incredible Insects, Fine Feathered Friends, On Beyond Bugs, Little Kids First Big Book of Birds, and Little Kids First Big Book of Bugs. The hands on activities I have are: 100 Birds to Fold and Fly, Paint by Sticker Beautiful Bugs, Bug Pattern Blocks Mats, Bird Pattern Block Mats, Birdwatcher’s Coloring Book, and Insects Coloring Book. For games I have: Professor Noggin Bird Trivia, Professor Noggin Insect Trivia, Bird Bingo, and Bug Bingo.
