The Best Games for Every Month of the Year

Playing games together is one of our absolute favorite ways to build connection. You can often catch us challenging each other to a round of an old favorite or bursting into laughter over the unexpected twists in a new dice game.

Thereโ€™s something magical about gameschooling that we love! So Iโ€™m always on the lookout for new games to add to our collection for game night, road trips, and extra learning to our lessons.

Rotating new games in and old ones out is an easy way to keep our stash fresh and exciting. I like to rotate through them based on what weโ€™re learning about and the changing seasons, choosing games that fit the topics we’re curious about or echo the season and coming holidays.

If you want to embrace learning through play, check out our Guide to Gameschooling. The guide is overflowing with creative ideas for sneaking in more play, tips to help you get started, and game suggestions for every subject.

The great news is that you can find amazing games without spending a fortune. Check out the clearance aisle, thrift stores, yard sales, and even your local library. To make it easy, Iโ€™ve put together a new game list for November, so you can easily shop, plan, and rotate your games.

Whether youโ€™re on the hunt for seasonal favorites or want to stock up on new games to enjoy all year long, this list has something for kids of all ages and parents too!

Asmodee Skull Game

The Skull Game from Asmodee is a fast-paced card game where players collect and steal cards. Kids learn to practice strategy, think ahead, and read social cues as they bluff to steal skulls. Plus, itโ€™s a great way to introduce kids ages 8 and up to probability.

This game is a whimsical way to celebrate Dia de Los Muertos this November, just like they do in Mexico. The best part is that you can play with just 2 players, so itโ€™s easy to add to your gameschooling plans if youโ€™re homeschooling an only child this year.

This game can be played in just 20 minutes, making it a quick strategy game for teens. Players use โ€œmagic cardsโ€ to make their beards longer, and the longest golden beard wins!

Dice Batter Game

We love a good dice game! Take a quick break from cooking Thanksgiving dinner, and play Dice Batter from Lethal Chicken Games. Kids as young as age 4 can play this quick 10-minute game. Youโ€™ll roll the dice to strategically โ€œbakeโ€ the best combination on your cookie sheet card.

Dice Batter is an excellent choice for practicing pattern recognition, counting, and strategy with kids as early as preschool. Itโ€™s quick, so you can say yes to game time even when youโ€™re busy with chores this November. Plus, kids will get a big kick out of the oven box and wooden spoon.

Do You Really Know Your Family?

Does your family like to play games together after Thanksgiving dinner? If itโ€™s part of your tradition or you would really like it to be, definitely add Do You Really Know Your Family? to your November game rotation.

This trivia-style card game can be played with up to 8 people. It tests just how well you know your relatives, and itโ€™s sure to encourage lots of laughter, sharing memories, and conversation around your Thanksgiving table. Get ready for all the family storytelling fun!

Gobble โ€˜til You Wobble

A November board game thatโ€™s great for older kids is Harvest from Keymaster Games. This is a long one, but itโ€™s great for rainy days or a cozy family game night at home with ages 10 and up. In this game, youโ€™ll build your farm, cultivate crops, and deliver goods.

The wooden wheelbarrows, fruit game pieces, and beautiful fall art included in this game make it the perfect way to enjoy a hygge evening together. There are 18 different scenarios to play through, so the game stays new all month long.

As the weather gets cooler, you might find yourself wanting to spend the evening indoors. When that happens, immerse the whole family in a fantasy game filled with strategy, planning, and critical thinking. Itโ€™s perfect for older kids and teens!

In Life in Reterra from Hasbro, kids practice planning and decision making as they build civilizations and overcome challenges in their fantasy world. Theyโ€™ll love solving tile puzzles to build on diverse terrain, collecting relics, sabotaging their neighbors, and mixing it up with unique powers and 3 different themed building sets.

Moustache Smash

If youโ€™re ready to get silly for No Shave November with kids of all ages, try Moustache Smash from Spin Master games. In this silly game, kids will use moustaches with suction cups to โ€œsmashโ€ the stache that looks like theirs. Moustache Smash is a quick game you can play with the whole family or adapt for a single player.

Poultry Party

This November is the perfect time to learn about poultry! Get started with our free Turkey Unit Study. Then, add to the fun with Poultry Party, a board game from Gamrana. In this themed strategy game, youโ€™ll collect eggs and poultry (turkey, chickens, quail, and more) for points.

Poultry Party encourages counting skills and critical thinking. Youโ€™ll laugh out loud at the chaos of collecting 7 different types of birds in 25 minutes as you play this November game together.

Remember Me: A Loteria Game

Want a movie and a game? Watch Disneyโ€™s Coco to celebrate and learn about Dia de Los Muertos together. Then, bring the movie to life with Cocoโ€™s Remember Me: A Loteria Game. A loteria game is a traditional Mexican game similar to bingo, with pictures instead of numbers.

In this version, kids will build memory skills as they match up the images from the movie. Itโ€™s a fun and easy way to explore Mexican culture and practice concentration and memory in your homeschool this month.
