Medieval Themed Morning Basket

As we embark on our new school year I have slightly restructured our morning basket a little bit to try to incorporate the things I want to ensure do not slip through the cracks and a few special requests from Emily.

Due to an upcoming field trip to Medieval Times as well as the fact that Medieval is a topic covered in depth in both of our main curriculum for the year I decided it would be a great theme to kick off our new school year. So, our Second Grade September Morning Basket will be Medieval (Knights & Castles) themed.

My “plan” for our morning basket for this year is as follows: We will begin our morning time while Emily is eating breakfast. Everyday we start with our morning menu, calendar time will be done everyday and we will loop through poetry, art, and music. We will then do bible or devotion.

Next, I will read from a fairy tale, folktale, myth, or legend because I wanted to incorporate more of these into our homeschool. I will also read aloud one to two chapters form a current read aloud.

Then, Emily will choose one picture book everyday for us to read so I can be sure we are reading a great picture book daily. Mad Libs were the one thing she asked for us to incorporate more of, so we will be doing those everyday.

We will be continuing with a journal everyday as well.

The last things we will do is play a game and do either a mindfulness activity or some kind of movement. As always I will have a few hands-on thing available for her while I am reading aloud.
