Homeschool Geography Studies Your Children Will Love!
We like exploring and learning geography through unit studies because they weave together various subjects and concepts with hands-on activities, living books, games, and videos. Some of our favorite unit studies focus on geography and history in the United States and the World. These unit studies have inspired us to travel, explore, and engage in hands-on learning through field trips all across our nation.
Traveling The States
In the last few years, we have traveled a lot in our homeschool lessons. Traveling the States has allowed us to learn more about the United States of America through books, videos, virtual tours, and games. This unit study is the first big geography-based unit we created and it’s still one of our favorites!
Emily enjoys diving into geography unit studies, so we engage in role-play activities, play lots of games, and even taste-test foods from the places we’re learning about. In our Traveling the States geography unit study, you can visit all 50 states in any order you choose.
It’s the perfect way to practice interest-led learning and explore geography at the same time. For every state, kids can locate the state on the map, read about it, color a custom coloring page, learn about the state’s history, stamp their state passport, watch educational videos, play games, and taste test a traditional recipe from the region.
Traveling The World
When we did this Traveling the World unit study I brought each lesson to life by “flying” Emily to the next country in an imaginary airplane. Then, we stamped her printable passport and began learning about a new place. If you can’t travel to France, China, or Brazil, this Traveling the World geography unit is the next best thing!
You’ll get lessons covering 30 different countries all over the world with videos, activities, legends, games, and great books to read aloud together as you explore. Plus, get the scoop on how you can use a snack subscription box to take a hands-on tour of the world in your homeschool.
Traveling The Parks
Geography and natural history team up in our Traveling the Parks unit study all about America’s National Parks. Did you know there are 63 National Parks all over the states? This unit study has inspired us to see as many as we can together.
Our Traveling the Parks lessons are perfect for learning in the car as we travel to national parks. They include great books, fun trivia games, hands-on activities, custom coloring pages, word searches, an interactive park passport, and so much more.
The best thing about this unit study is that it includes lots of virtual elements so kids can learn about the parks and explore them from home. If you can’t travel to the parks in person, you can use this unit study to see the plants, animals, and natural wonders in each of America’s 63 parks on a virtual field trip with live webcams, amazing photographs, and educational videos.
