Themes make me happy, like REALLY happy! I love a good theme and I love tying everything into a good theme. I also love holidays and celebrations. So give me the opportunity to tie a theme and a holiday together and chances are I will go over board. This months theme is Thanksgiving. November’s Thanksgiving…
We’re big fans of interest-led learning! It’s a powerful way to keep your child engaged and excited about learning. Plus, it’s great for encouraging curiosity and increasing retention. Interest-led unit studies are the backbone of our homeschool curriculum here at the Waldock Way. However, there are some potential drawbacks you’ll have to think about when…
Interest-led homeschooling is great, but what do you do when you lack the motivation and don’t feel inspired or creative? Sometimes lacking motivation as a homeschool mom is very normal. As interest-led homeschoolers, we’ve found ways to follow our child’s interests even when we’re not feeling super into it. I’m excited to share my favorite…
When we began our homeschooling journey, I knew I wanted to cultivate a lifestyle of learning for our family. I quickly discovered that Emily learned best in real-world scenarios like making lunch together. She was much more likely to retain the things she learned this way than the concepts she learned by completing workbooks. It…
Emily is writing a book for fun! When I share this with other homeschool moms, they are pretty quick to ask what writing curriculum we use. We follow an interest-led learning approach in our homeschool for all kinds of reasons. For starters, this approach works really well for us. Interest-led lessons and unit studies give us the opportunity to meet our daughter where she is and make the learning journey fun for her along the way. Plus, interest-led learning is a…
As homeschool parents, we’re always looking for hands-on ways to bring learning to life. We want our kids to not only understand concepts—but to experience them. That’s exactly what archery does. What may look like a simple shooting sport on the surface is actually packed with opportunities to teach physics, mathematics, and critical thinking. Archery…
Hands-on learning is frequently the most effective way to learn. There are countless ideas for hands-on activities suitable for preschool and elementary-aged students. Unfortunately, as children grow older, the options for hands-on projects tend to diminish, making way for more “serious” learning. We start to think that baking soda volcanoes and talking about fractions with…
When the Florida sun starts blazing and the afternoons are filled with rainstorms, we shift gears. We ditch the homeschool table, grab our goggles, and move our learning outside and straight into the pool. That’s right pool school is officially in session! It is our way of making summer learning fun, relaxed, and refreshingly different….
Every year when summer rolls around, we ease into a slower, more relaxed homeschool rhythm and honestly, we wouldn’t have it any other way. Summer in Florida is hot, humid, and often rainy, which means we naturally spend more time indoors. Rather than fight it, we lean in and use this time to continue learning…
